Camp Tekoa’s Afterschool program offers skill-based classes/workshops throughout the school year in addition to our normal afterschool activities. Classes we have offered in the past include climbing, cooking, mountain biking, textile crafting, photography, paddling, cooking with fire and more!
Spring Amplified Classes Begin April 7th!
How does it work?
Campers will attend afterschool like normal, but then will join their class from 4:00-5:00 each day of instruction. The cost for the session of classes is in addition to normal afterschool fees.
Each class will have up to 12 campers with one main instructor. Most classes will also have a support staff member. Campers will be with mixed ages and will participate and learn according to their own comfort, ability, and skill level. Registration is at the link below. Email Alicia at [email protected] with any questions!
Mondays - Spring Gardening: We will be cleaning up our garden, starting our seeds, and expanding our beds to grow more food! Last year we successfully grew squash, tomatoes, wildflowers, and lettuce. We learned a lot, and are excited to use our knowledge to grow more!
Tuesdays - Pirates of the Carabiners: This class explores our climbing and paddling programs at camp. Campers try different adventure programs on camp not usually offered within our afterschool program. They learn basic paddling techniques on our lake in our canoes and on our paddleboards. They also explore the climbing systems and some of our more challenging elements at camp with our ropes team. This class is a prerequsite to our climbing and paddling classes in the fall.
Wednesdays - Fabric and Threads: Campers learn about different textile arts and skills. These may include dyeing fabrics, simple stitches, embroidery etc. They will create beautiful projects to take home! Participants should plan to attend each class so they don't miss out on a step or skill.
Thursdays - Cooking with Fire: Each week campers will build their own fire and learn to cook an appetizer, simple meal, or treat using hot coals or an open flame. In addition to fire safety, campers will be dicing, mixing, seasoning and measuring ingredients in this cooking class. This class may go until 5:30 some days. Please adjust pick up accordingly.
